Husbands, Love Your Wives

Drops of Love: Husbands, Love Your Wives “Husbands, lo

ve your wives, just as Christ loved the church,” was a teaching given by our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, to sanctify her, having cleansed her with the washing of water by the word, so that He might present her to Himself as a glorious church, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and blameless. In the same way, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. (Ephesians 5:25-28)

A man must love his wife with the same devotion and magnitude with which Christ loved the church. This is not just a suggestion; it is a divine commandment. It’s not about any kind of love, but a sacrificial love, to the point of being willing to give his life for her. This is the level of commitment God expects men to have with their wives: a limitless, unconditional love full of self-giving.

The Apostle Paul, in addition to commanding husbands to love their wives, also warns them not to be harsh with them. Many men, due to their daily roles, whether giving orders at work or serving in the military, can come home and forget that the person waiting for them is their wife. Treating their wives as subordinates or inferiors can destroy the relationship.

To have a successful marriage, we must look at how Christ treats the church. True love requires developing the fruits of the Spirit: patience, kindness, gentleness, and self-control. This love involves sacrifice and devotion, just as the church sacrifices for Christ, going through a process of perfection while awaiting the coming of the bridegroom to celebrate the great wedding feast of the Lamb.

In conclusion, the call is clear: to love as Christ loved, with humility, compassion, and without reservation. Only through this can strong, God-filled marriages be built.
