People lacking genuine commitment are almost insurmountable obstacles

People lacking genuine commitment are almost insurmountable obstacles. They don't openly sabotage, but their attitudes hinder the team's progress. They turn the minister's work into a field of constant tension. Ministries filled with reluctant people lose their identity and purpose.

Projects are watered down to appease those who resist; the vision is halved. What was meant to be extraordinary becomes mediocre because of those who don't want to be there.

Discontent is contagious and spreads like a plague in the ministry environment. One unmotivated person infects three others around them. Before long, an epidemic of widespread discouragement breaks out in the team. The worst part is that those who are unwilling don't leave; they simply stay. They create a culture of stagnation that spreads like a virus. Leadership becomes filled with apathetic people instead of warriors of the Kingdom.

Choose to work alongside those who are willing and joyful. Harmony and shared purpose strengthen them.

Just as two cannot walk together unless they are agreed:

“Can two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” (Amos 3:3).

Enthusiastic people invest more than necessary. They champion the vision even in difficult times. This voluntary commitment creates bonds of loyalty that transcend position or role. Genuine willingness is the foundation upon which organic loyalty is built in ministry. When people choose to be present out of conviction, not obligation, this willingness generates natural commitment and rapid progress in ministry.

Stop trying to convince reluctant leaders and invest more in committed ones. Make way for those who are unwilling to leave in peace.

As Dag Heward-Mills said,

“There is nothing like working with a willing and happy person.”
